My blog is now two months old so I feel it’s about time I do my first monthly favourites post! (Let’s forget the 3 years my blog lay dorment. New look, new blog right?). There were a lot of winners on my shortlist for the best products I’ve tried this February but I managed to cut it down to eight superstars. As you can see not many of my top picks are from premium brands – I’ve rediscovered some of my old drugstore favourites after realising I was a little hooked on the luxury beauty counters! I was really surprised to discover the quality of what brands such as Revlon, Rimmel, Bourjois etc now have to offer. There’s some real finds if you spend a bit of time perusing the budget makeup aisles.
On that note, first on my list is Collection’s Lasting Perfection Concealer. I’ve been battling breakouts since I switched to MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer and even though I love the coverage it gives I felt I needed a break from it to let my skin clear up. I tried a few brands in Boots and this concealer was the best for coverage, colour and consistency. I was really surprised as I’ve never been much of a fan on Collection 2000 but this concealer is such a good Pro Longwear dupe.
A Lush product was sure to make my list and if you’ve been following my Instagram you’ll know I’ve been enjoying many of their bath time treats! This bath bomb is called Honey Bee and it’s the perfect sweetness. I have to be in the mood for certain Lush fragrances but this one smells good every day of the week.
Real Techniques makeup brushes are a beauty bloggers favourite so I thought I’d give them a go. I picked up their Expert Face Brush because I wanted to try a new way of applying foundation. Long story short, I love this brush! It allows you to buff your foundation on giving you smooth and even coverage. I also use it to buff in concealer and highlighter. I also purchased their Setting Brush as I was in need of a smaller fluffy powder brush to set my under-eye concealer – it’s great for applying powder highlighter too.
One of my biggest ‘wants’ at the minute is dewy skin (don’t we all). I haven’t been able to achieve the exact look I’m after – I’m too much of a fan of powders – but L’Oreal’s Lumi Magique Primer has got me a step closer. It’s super silky and gives a lot of luminosity. I wouldn’t recommend it as a primer as I don’t feel it really perfects the skin but it does provide that sought after glow which is why it’s on my favourites list.
Percy & Reed’s Finishing Polish has been a saviour this month as my hair has become a little dry of late. I apply a little to the ends of my hair after a blow dry to keep it smooth and it also works really well for taming fly-aways when I wear my hair in a pony or top knot. I’m also loving their Totally TLC Hydrating Mask. How cute is the packaging?!
After the long winter and this god awful rain by skin has become drier than it ever has been. I’ve been using Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion for such a long time and thought it would be interesting to have a change. You can’t really go wrong with Elizabeth Arden’s skincare offering so I purchased their Visible Difference Gentle Hydrating Cream and it’s brilliant. Not too oily or thick, this cream smoothes onto your skin giving you the hydration you need for the day ahead. I like to give my skin a bit more moisture during winter before switching to a lighter moisturiser come summer and this pot ticks all the boxes.
Lastly, again due to the horrible weather the UK’s been having, I’ve been adding a little summer into my life with a selection of Yankee Candles. I don’t particularly like their sweetest flavours but three that have me dreaming of the tropics are Black Coconut, Bahama Beach and Under The Palms. All equally as gorgeous as the other they cheer me up after a long day at work.
What have been your February favourites?
