There has definitely been a shift in my beauty routine this month, with the weather becoming warmer and layers of clothing becoming fewer. I’ve ditched the heavy makeup and opted for a natural look most days. This means my skin needs to be at its best and over the past couple of months skincare has taken over my makeup obsession! I’ve also braved bare legs a couple of times and thanks to the St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan Mousse I featured in my April beauty favourites the general public has been spared by pale legs.
1) MAC Mineralize Skinfinish, Soft & Gentle RRP £23
If you’re a regular blog reader or beauty blogger you’ll be familiar with MAC’s Skinfinish range and this beautiful highlighting powder. It’s a firm favourite in the blogosphere! Sweep this pretty sheen over your cheekbones and brow bones after applying blusher and bronzing powder for a well-polished look. Soft & Gentle is my favourite colour from the total of five shades available and it’s the most natural. MAC’s powder highlighters pack the best pearly punch and this one’s my favourite step in my morning makeup routine!
2) Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara, RRP £7.99
Another blogger favourite, I came across this mascara after watching one of Tanya Burr’s makeup tutorials on YouTube. She’s always got beautiful long lashes and raves about this mascara so I thought I’d give it a go. I’m a loyal fan of Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara and was a bit cynical about a budget mascara living up to my all-time favourite. However, The Falsies does exactly what it says on the tin and actually adds more length to my lashes than They’re Real (although not as much volume). For a natural makeup day it’s an absolute must – yes, I know a false lash effect doesn’t really go hand in hand with a natural look but fluttery lashes are just so pretty with minimal makeup!
3) Ren Vita Mineral Daily Supplement Moisturising Cream, RRP £19
I’ve already reviewed this moisturiser this month here, but it’s literally the best beauty find I’ve come across all year! I absolutely love it and had to add it to my May favourites. This moisturiser has made such a difference to my skin that I’m often skipping foundation altogether (which is something I never do!). My skin used to always look blotchy and I had my fair share of dull skin days but this has made it the healthiest it’s ever been. I wake up each morning and wonder how my skin got so good! The answer… this moisturiser!
4) Braun Silk Epil, RRP £59.99-£169.99
I was introduced to the benefits of using an epilator by my friend Heidi years ago and since then it’s become a key player in my beauty routine. My one is pretty old and plugs in but Braun now make them rechargeable and some can even be used in the shower. Mine came with three heads but the new ones look amazing and include so many great attachments – after looking at the Braun website I may need to upgrade! Epilators are not for the feint hearted, they are made up of a series of tweezers on a rotating head that pulls out your hair quickly as it would a wax. Like a wax, your skin needs to adapt to using them and the more you do the less painful it gets. If you’ve ever tried waxing at home then you know how messy it can be and an epilator makes home hair removal so much easier. During the summer months no one wants to be shaving regularly and an epilator keeps you smooth for up to four weeks.
5) Loreal Elnett Heat Protect Styling Spray, RRP £5.99
I discovered this protectant spray the other day when my Aussie Heat Defence Spray ran out. Elnett is my go-to hairspray brand and I was intrigued by this new heat protect styling spray to hit the shelves. Firstly is gives protection to up to 230c from heat tools but also helps lock in your style for up to 3 days. There’s no way in hell my style will last 3 days but it did make it last longer. The spray is available in original, curl and volume and the spray trigger makes it easier to apply than the usual push down buttons you get on spray bottles.
