If you read my Weekend Round-up #10 earlier in the week, then you’ll know I paid a visit to Ikea in Southampton on Sunday! I brought my camera along for the ride because I wanted to take pictures of some of the room set ups. There’s always so much inspiration in Ikea’s showrooms that by the time you get home, or even through to the shopping hall, you’ve forgotten half of what you’ve seen! They had so many quirky ideas for storage, hanging pictures and outdoor dining, and I want to recreate some of them in my home – I’d definitely recommend taking a camera with you next time you visit! Before I get on to my haul, here’s all the bits I was loving when browsing the showroom!
On to my haul! Our garden is made up of three halves: A large patio area bordered by a picket fence that opens up onto a small lawn, a decking area to one side that catches all the sun, then a summer house with veranda and a dilapidated shed! This all sounds pretty impressive but our garden really isn’t that big, just well designed! It’s a great space for parties and BBQs and I wanted to inject a bit of fun into it. We painted our picket fence a vibrant dark green a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to add more colour into the patio area. I’d like this area to end up a little tropical (well as tropical as England can get!), filled with bright flowers and fairy lights. To start the transformation, I purchased a huge bright yellow Ikea lantern and four hot pink cushions for our dining chairs. I think the lantern cost around £8 and the cushions a few quid each. Bargain!
I also bought a little filigree pot for my ever increasing makeup brush collection and a glass milk bottle style vase for flowers. We stocked up on candles too as we get through so many in our living room fireplace.
What would a trip to Ikea be without buying some treats?! K bought some Daim chocolate (I’m addicted to these!), some strawberry jam and some chocolate spread with butterscotch pieces – it’s so yummy you could eat it straight from the pot!
One of the main reasons I was so excited to visit Ikea was to pick up some picture frames! These will be the final touches to our home which is now completely decorated (yippee!). The large black collage frame is for our spare room and we’re going to fill it with happy pictures of previous holidays. The white frames are going to make a feature of our bedroom chimney breast – I’ve been wanting to hang a collage of picture frames for ages! We’re going to put black and white photos in these ones.
I hope this has inspired you to add some fun home décor bits to your home! You can find more ideas on the Ikea website too.
