My October beauty favourites

October Favourites

Ok so this is a tad late AND I haven’t posted a beauty related post in forever but here’s a few of my favourite beauty products I discovered this month. The main reason I haven’t been doing many beauty posts is that I’ve been trying to save the pennies and the beauty counters are not a good place to be when keeping hold of the purse strings. Though my will power was strong a few things have found their way into my shopping basket – plus I’d resisted visiting Lush since the launch of the new Christmas products and couldn’t wait any longer!

First on my list was something I never usually buy – false eyelashes. I used to wear them at college when I did theatre shows and on the occasional night out but the fear of ending up with an eyelash spider on my cheek always put me off. This halloween I dressed up as ‘Spider Woman’ (definitely not the female version of Spiderman – visit my Instagram to see the finished look!) and in an ironic kind of way I decided lashes had to be part of the makeup look.

With only a day to spare and no time to visit the shops I bought some on Amazon using Amazon Prime for next day delivery. I chose a pack of Eylure No.114 lashes – anything that makes me look like Cheryl Cole has got to be worth it! I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved these lashes, I had to trim the width down a little but once on they didn’t look like spider legs at all (which was probably the look I was going for…) and simply enhanced my natural lash. I’ll be wearing these babies again soon!

Ah and on to Lush. Since attending their blogger event a couple of months back I’ve been meaning to try some of their facial cleansers. I’m a big believer in natural skincare as most of you know and this bar of Fresh Farmacy caught my eye. One of my favourite Lush face masks is Catastrophe Cosmetic which contains calamine and chamomile and when I spotted this pink bar of soap with similar ingredients I knew I was on to a winner. It calms my skin down and is gentle and mild while still removing all the day’s grime. I also bought a few bath goodies and fell in love with the heavenly Snow Angel bath melt – it smells of marzipan and is totally delicious (in your bath, not your mouth…)!

Finally there’s an old favourite and a new must-have that have found their way on to my list. Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel has been a firm favourite of mine since I was 18. Over the past year I’ve been trying various different brands and was so pleased to go back to this old friend. Sometimes certain products just suit your skin!

I also discovered Bumble and bumble’s thickening hairspray. I received it in a goody bag at a recent Smashbox cosmetics bloggers event and loved how effective it was! I have a lot of hair and generally try to tame it rather than thicken it but this spray worked great at adding volume to my roots. Plus it’s a handy size to pop in my bag when those flat hair days occur.
