One of my favourite days of the whole festive period is when the Christmas decorations come down from the loft and the house is transformed into my own little winter wonderland! I’ve collected quite a few things over the years but the decorations that make me the most happy as I unwrap them from hibernation are the ones I’ve made myself! In fact, my very first blog post last winter was about Christmas crafting!
A few weeks ago, Topps Tiles got in touch asking me to take part in their Yuletile Greetings campaign and sent me a lovely box of craft supplies and a big white glossy tile to transform into something fabulously festive! I chose to turn my tile into a seasonal sign to display on one of our alcove shelves in the living room, using one of the must-have design trends of the year – typography.
With a bit of inspiration from Pinterest, I sketched my design onto the tile with a pencil then went over the lines with a ceramic marker pen. Then all that was left to do was to paint the lettering using ceramic paints! In our little house, the Christmas decor is fairly traditional so I chose a red and green colour palette to co-ordinate with the rest of our decorations. I finished the tile with a couple of holly leaves and added some glittery red berries using the glue gun from my Dremel Home Decor Kit.
I framed my tile with some candles to compliment the colours and it looks so pretty perched on my shelf. I now want to make some matching coasters from some small white gloss tiles I have leftover from decorating the bathroom! These would make great personalised presents and you could even make matching place mats using larger tiles like this one.
Thanks Topps Tiles for inspiring me. Make sure to keep an eye out for more Christmas crafts on my blog and while you’re here, check out my recent Autumn projects too!
